This Privacy Notice explains how Hydrogen UK uses, shares and protects your personal data. Talan UK and Ireland Limited (Talan) manage the Hydrogen UK (www.Hydrogen-uk.org) and the Hydrogen UK Project Space (www.projectmap.hydrogen-uk.org) websites and provides Secretariat functions. These are provided alongside and on behalf of Hydrogen UK. 

We ask that you read this Privacy Notice (“the Notice”).  Here, we explain how we will use your personal data in line with the Data Protection Act 2018, the UK General Data Protection Regulation (“UK GDPR”) and relevant data protection legislation.  

For the purposes of data protection legislation, Hydrogen UK is the data controller for the personal data described in this Privacy Notice. This means Hydrogen UK determines the purposes and means of processing your personal data and is responsible for ensuring that it is processed in accordance with applicable data protection law. 

Hydrogen UK is supported in the delivery of its services by delivery partners, including Talan UK and Ireland Limited, previously Gemserv Limited and Madano Partnership Ltd. These organisations provide administrative, communications, website and event support services to Hydrogen UK and process personal data on behalf of Hydrogen UK, in accordance with agreed arrangements. They do not independently determine the purposes or means of processing personal data for the activities described in this Privacy Notice. This Privacy Notice does not include personal data about children. It also does not apply to information used for recruitment or employment purposes.  

This Privacy Notice should be read along with the terms of use of this website.

Sharing your data

We will only share your personal data with trusted third parties where necessary to deliver our services. This includes:

  • delivery partners and service providers who support Hydrogen UK, such as Talan UK and Ireland Limited and Madano Partnership Ltd, who process personal data on our behalf and only in accordance with our instructions.
  • Third-party service providers who may store your personal data or use it in the course of services we request. These include:
    • Microsoft Azure, our cloud hosting provider;
    • Jonas Events Management, our platform for collecting and hosting event registration forms
    • Stripe, for processing events payments
    • HubSpot, our customer relations management (CRM) provider
    • We use All in the loop to provide our event mobile application. All in the loop processes personal data on our behalf as a data processor. Data is hosted on secure Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the United States and is subject to appropriate international transfer safeguards.
    • With our professional advisors (including lawyers, banks, auditors and insurers);and
  • With our professional advisors (including lawyers, banks, auditors and insurers); and
  • HM Revenue & Customs, regulators and other authorities.

We take steps to ensure our partners protect your personal data in keeping with the UK GDPR, such as:

International Data Transfers

We will send your personal data to countries including the United States for data storage purposes. We will make sure these transfers have the right security controls to protect your data. We will also assess the risks of these transfers where we need to by law.

Data is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure.

Hosting location stated: United States (California).

AWS maintains recognised security certifications including ISO/IEC 27001, 27017 and 27018.

AWS hosting relies on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for data processed outside UK, with supplementary measures

Your Rights

You have these rights over your personal data:

  • Your right to request access to your personal data. You can receive a copy of the data we hold and check how we are using it. 
  • Your right to request us correct to (rectify) your personal data. You can ask us to correct your data that isn’t complete or accurate. 
  • Your right to request we delete your personal data (right to be forgotten). You can ask us to delete your personal data. This applies where there is no good reason for us to keep processing it. 
  • Your right to object to us processing your personal data. You can object to us processing of your personal data. This applies unless we have a good reason to keep using it.
  • Your right to request us to restrict your personal data. You can ask us to suspend using your personal data.
  • Your right to request a transfer of your personal data to you or to someone else (data portability). You can ask us to give you, or someone else, your personal data in a format you can use. 
  • Your right to withdraw consent. We will stop using your data, if we collected it with consent. However, please note we may have processed your data up to the point where you withdrew your consent.  
  • Your right to challenge, express your view, or have a human review any automated decisions we make. This happens when these decisions may have a big impact on you. We don’t’ make such decisions.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the information Commissioner’s office (ICO) the UK regulator for data protection matters. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve your concern promptly and effectively. Your right to complain to the ICO is not affected.
