Electrification is crucial for reducing carbon emissions. But getting grid connections can be challenging. In the UK, for instance, there is a waiting list of up to 10 years for permanent locations and no options for temporary or remote sites. This means many construction sites, outdoor events, mining and agricultural activities rely on fossil fuels, as green power options are limited, costly and logistically difficult. The lack of grid connections is also a major barrier to providing stations for charging electric vehicles. Catalsys has a unique solution that addresses these issues. Our technology enables electric power production at scale wherever needed. Central to the Catalsys innovation is a generator fueled by a custom ammonia-hydrogen blend, paired with a portable ammonia cracking solution. The efficient, low-cost units fit inside a shipping container and can generate 150kW, 300kW, or 500kW of power, depending on the demand. Units can be easily stacked to increase output.

Schwank

Schwank

In 2018 Schwank started the journey into the development of hydrogen heating systems. This project was driven by the anticipation of the need to eliminate any CO2 footprint and to pave the way for the carbon-free heating of large areas while using the existing natural gas infrastructure. In March this year Schwank launched geniumSchwank (derived from the Greek word “hydrogenium”). The development required a completely new construction and design of the burner as the properties of hydrogen are very different from natural gas. geniumSchwank is a patented, break-through milestone in Schwank’s history as it is the world’s first industrial heater that can be run on 100% hydrogen. For the simplicity of customers and for the case when hydrogen is not instantly available, geniumSchwank can first be run on natural gas and can easily be switched over to hydrogen at a later time. Further to its outstanding environmental properties, geniumSchwank stands out with an exceptional seasonal efficiency of 99%.

Storengy

Storengy

Storengy UK, based in Cheshire, operates the largest onshore underground natural gas storage facility in the UK. Our ambition is to develop safe hydrogen storage to support the energy transition and the decarbonisation of the UK’s energy system. We believe that geological gas storage of hydrogen and methane will be vital to the energy transition. It will support industry in its efforts to decarbonise and allow the UK power grid to mitigate intermittency in the supply of other renewable energy sources. As the UK decarbonises its energy system, green energy storage facilities will be required to support the national target of reaching net-zero by 2050. Storengy UK’s belief in the need for decarbonisation and sustainability is reflected in both our own target of being a carbon neutral company by 2025 and our community and environmental engagement.
